The snow is gone, things are growing again, and our heavy coats have been placed back into storage (meaning crammed into a crate which also contains swimwear, workout clothes, a lamp, and an old tennis racket..One day we'll have space...)
This makes me happy, because it means that Spring is here. Spring means two weeks off of work, which is one of the few perks left in being an educator these days. For the break, my dad invited us to come and stay with he and his wife in their new cabin at the top of a mountain in Gatlinburg, TN. It was needed. We both love the energy that living in Manhattan brings, but after a while, one just needs to be still in a quiet place. The sweet tea, rocking chairs, fried foods, and fireplaces were all nice touches as well.
The first two pictures are of the river that wound around the mountains. Peaceful.
My dad and I in front of the river.
The road leading up to the cabin.
The view of downtown Gatlinburg from the scenic bypass.

More of downtown from the scenic bypass.
The daytime view from the back porch of their cabin.
Fireplaces were our friend. We lit one nightly, even when it wasn't that cold out, as fires make for excellent napping environments.
If you look left off of the back porch on a clear night, you can see downtown in all it's glory.
The last three pictures are my favorites. All were taken off of the back porch. They are un-doctored. Not too shabby.
